Today, marriage customs in Vietnam are different from what they used to be. Vietnam is getting more modern and weddings are no exception. Parents are not required to select a bride for their sons anymore.
Future husbands and wives now choose each other without any sort of parental advice, just like in Western countries.

Men and women are now dressed in Western style, with a white dress for the bride and a classic black vest for the husband to be.
The traditional Vietnamese woman's clothing Ao Dai is now often being replaced by modern, western style attire.

These changes are very new, a few years only. This is what you will see in big cities, in the countryside however, not much has changed with regards to who is in charge and how things are done.

Process of proposing:

First, the man and his family will come to the woman's family's house to offer a glass of local alcohol made of rice to the parents of the woman. It is the traditional way of proposing in Vietnam.

Second, the bride's family will receive traditional gifts such as a TRAU and CAU. These are little trees which are believed to bring good luck and prosperity in the new couple's life. Additionally, earrings, necklace, bracelets and of course the wedding ring are expected by the bride.

Women of all countries love everything that shines!!

In catholic families, all of them will go to the church, where the two suspects will promise to each other until death separates them.

Finally, both families go to the restaurant to celebrate with relatives and friends. Pictures and video recordings are extremely important in Asian culture. A significant part of the budget is dedicated to this effect.

After the wedding:
The wife is supposed to stay at the family house of the husband for a few years to help out. Later on the couple moves out of the family hous to integrate their own habitat.

From that day onwards, the Vietnamese woman's life is less restricted. She is allowed to work outside of the family environment and make decisions with her husband without consulting older members of the family.

Bars and restaurants start to be very crowded when the sun goes down. Everybody, Vietnamese and foreigners get down in the streets to have fun. They enjoy relaxing after a stressful working day.

Cafes are always full, that's one thing you will notice in Vietnam, Karaokes are always very busy too.

Go to Apocalype Discotheque, it's fun and all types of people go there. You are in Vietnam, so no need to get over dressed. The dress code is inexistent and the entrance is free foreveryone. There are two dancefloors and DJs, one on the groundfloor and one on the newly added first floor.

The music is mainly dance music, sometimes hip hop. The selection of the music is not incredible, if you would like to bounce on something more recent, then don't go to Vietnam, go to New York, Tokyo or Paris!

The Apocalypse disco also offers a relaxing/garden area where you can manage to talk without screaming.

Note: Vietnam clubs are notoriously very VERY loud. Just go to Liquid Disco and you will understand..
